Grant Applications

On an almost regular basis, local governments are working on one or more grant applications. We can provide assistance with this process ranging from a turn-key approach where Strategic Innovations gets general guidance and in turn provides a completed application ready for signatures to providing specific assistance with various facets of a grant application – program design, needs assessment, narrative, budget, and preparation of the submission package.

Interim Services

Inevitably, local governments have to deal with changes in key executive positions, including the manager position. Hiring a new manager frequently means a period of time will exist when a person is needed to serve as the interim manager while the search for the “right” person is conducted. With past experience at this level to rely on, Strategic Innovations is able to provide an interim manager with some unique benefits. We are not trying to land a “permanent” position, so there is no worry about losing the interim person to another entity. Likewise, the local government does not have to deal with any issues related to the interim person applying for the open position. This also frees us existing staff to be able apply for the open manager's position and avoid any controversy related to having an “inside track” as the interim. All of these benefits will put a board or council in a better position to objectively evaluate candidates for the manager position knowing the organization is in capable hands.

In addition, Strategic Innovations can provide interim solutions for a variety of other department head level positions such as chief information officer, chief financial officer, zoning administrator, planner, and others.

Code Enforcement Services

One area of particular concern for many communities, especially smaller communities, is that of code enforcement. It is a time-consuming task that requires a great deal of attention to detail and the ability to navigate myriad laws and regulations. We have not only engaged in proactive code enforcement activities in the past, Strategic Innovations has helped develop and implement code enforcement programs in small towns. This service may be of particular value to those communities that cannot afford to hire a full-time code enforcement official but need the services of a professional.

Studies and Analysis

Based on our past experience, we know that one of the biggest challenges faced by local governments is that of ad hoc reports, studies and analysis. From economic development analysis to pay studies to reorganizations, local government leaders are frequently asked to provide the analysis needed to justify recommendations and decisions. Unfortunately, conducting the research and analysis needed is time consuming and can be a challenge in the face of the daily demands of executive level positions. Even if the tasks can be delegated, it may be that the expertise needed is either not on staff or developing it may be too costly or time-consuming. This is where Strategic Innovations can step in and provide assistance with resources to complete these assignments in a cost effective manner.
